ABSTRACT

To avoid these deficiencies in conventional measurements, a bridge deflection estimation method using multichannel acceleration measurements is proposed in this study. With the development of sensing technology, high-resolution acceleration measurement becomes feasible at low cost with MEMS accelerometer. While deflection estimation by simple double-integration of acceleration measurement is considered to provide a simple and inexpensive deflection evaluation, the doubleintegration suffers from large integration errors. In this study, the acceleration signals are not only integrated twice, but also used to estimate girder inclination. By fusing these two sets of measurement data using Kalman filter, the bridge deflection is evaluated with a high precision, which is shown herein by simulation of a simply-supported beam.
