ABSTRACT
Investigating the good and bad performance of buildings following severe weather is an important means of evaluating our construction codes, and design, product and testing standards. It is also invaluable for assessing their implementation. The five questions to be asked during a damage survey are;
• Are our design standards appropriate? • Was the design criteria (wind speed) exceeded? • Were design criteria correctly implemented? • Were appropriate materials used? • Was construction quality/method adequate?
