ABSTRACT

The use of lightweight aluminium honeycombs is increasing in various industries (e.g., automotive, marine, aircraft and aerospace). In the latest aircraft, Boeing 787 Dreamliner (2015), Hexweb aluminium honeycombs were used in engine nacelles, wings, tail skid assembly and other components. The high strength-to-weight ratio and energy absorption capabilities are the important properties of aluminium honeycombs. In their various applications, aluminium honeycombs can be subjected to pure compression and shear, or combined compression-shear load. Since the last few decades, the mechanical properties and deformation mechanism of aluminium honeycombs under different loading conditions have been a great interest for researchers.
