ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology has recently become one of the most interesting research areas and their vast applications has also been well recognized in several disciplines including biology, chemistry, physics, medicines, engineering, etc. Owing to the continuous development of nano-components and nano-scale devices such as sensors, transistors, actuators, resonators in Nano-ElectroMechanical Systems (NEMSs) and components of nano-chips, studies towards the characterization of mechanical properties at such a tiny-scale level has rapidly gained attention from many researchers in the past three decades. Understanding the mechanical behavior and related properties (e.g., bending, buckling, and post-buckling responses) of slender nano-components which are commonly found as parts of nano-devices and nano-systems is obviously essential and generally required in the design procedure to ensure the integrity and safety throughout their applications.
