ABSTRACT

With chimney stacks reaching the end of their service life and the use for which they were designed made redundant because of changing technology, there is a constant need worldwide to explosively demolish quickly, cost effectively and safely such structures. To demolish such structures mechanically can be time consuming and extremely costly but also a far more unsafe proposition for contractors. Implosion uses in fact a free commodity in the form of gravity that is invoked by any collapse with the aim of producing manageable sized debris for removal.
