ABSTRACT

The Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) is the primary organisation championing academic primary care (APC) in the UK. The SAPC aims to provide a clear voice and a strong presence for APC in the complex and ever-changing primary care environment. The SAPC today maintains its firm base within university academic departments, delivering primary care teaching and research. Its diverse membership reflects the range of professional disciplines working with and within primary care; about half of the society's members have a clinical background. Reflecting the growing diversity and complexity of UK primary care, the SAPC also works with an expanding range of colleagues and organisations to support primary care improvement – including the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), national Clinical Research and Academic Health Science Networks, research funders including the National Institute for Health Research, as well as international partners including the Australasian Association for Academic Primary Care / Primary Health Care Research and Information Service.
