ABSTRACT

For most countries in the world, strengthening primary healthcare is a critical strategy to secure sustainable healthcare. Comparison of experiences between countries is a powerful means to support system change and primary healthcare policy implementation. The International Implementation Research Network in Primary Care (IIRNPC) has as its aims to support international collaboration between researchers and other stakeholders. The IIRNPC sets out to support researchers in the field of health systems and implementation research, in such a way that research can support the ability of primary healthcare to respond to the needs of individuals and communities in a broad social, economic, political and cultural context. An issue in the current debate on implementing primary healthcare policy is that it is presented as a one-off need of change, in which the successful introduction of a primary healthcare-based health system is presented as the end point.
