ABSTRACT

Primary care research is mainly conducted in public academic institutions such as the institutes and schools of public health of Morelos, Veracruz, and Nuevo Leon, among others and in health science schools in universities in several cities in Mexico. Public academic institutions and university departments perform research focused on clinical practice; however, in the institution representative of family medicine, the Institute of Mexican Social Security, the practice of family medicine is largely focused on clinical activities. The organisation of research networks through synchronous or real-time communication seems to be the answer to the need for effective communication between researchers, for distance tutoring, to carry out multicentre studies and to achieve greater standing for the specialty. The creation of a family medicine journal as a means of dissemination for the Mexican College of Family Medicine will fulfil an urgent need for transmitting generated knowledge; this is needed because the previous two journals are no longer in circulation.
