ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Building LCA needs detailed data of operational energy consumption, material and construction. Therefore, most case studies were conducted when the design schemes were well defined and developed. International researchers had made efforts in developing the methods and tools to improve building life cycle performances in the early design stage. Building Information Model (BIM) integrates multiple properties with 3D model which enables it to support information extraction and feedback during the design process and later in the building life cycle stages. In this contribution, the potential and methods of integration of BIM, LCA and Chinese building design process is discussed. First, the status quo of BIM and LCA of Chinese buildings are reviewed. Then, the advantages and limits of existing tools and databases are analysed with a case study. Finally, the need for developing the BIM enabled LCA tool and databases for Chinese building design workflows is explained.
