ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Huge sums are invested in the transportation infrastructure and the aging of the infrastructure is a recognized problem for the society. Reinforced concrete structures are – and will continue to be – a central part of the transportation infrastructure. Sustainable design and maintenance of reinforced concrete structures requires both engineering and sustainability limit states be considered. Reliable and valid multi-scale and multi-physics prediction models are needed for quantification of the environmental impact of the structures through their entire s as well as design optimization and maintenance planning. Demands for “a green change” and “circular materials economy” stresses the need for innovation in materials, design and processes used for establishing and maintaining a sustainable transportation infrastructure.
