ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The long-term mechanical performance evolution of the main cable of a suspension bridge is a critical issue in its maintenance process. In this paper, the mechanical performance is evaluated by the multi-scale model which contains the steel wire scale, the strand scale, and the main cable scale. Based on the reliability theory, a more realistic and practical time-varying reliability model of main cable is established in this paper. It can be used to evaluate the mechanical properties of the main cable of Xihoumen Bridge and guide its inspection and maintenance works.
