ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Application of partial factor method given in current codes for structural design, aimed at the assessment of existing water construction works including dams and hydroelectric power plants near rivers or lakes might lead to conservative estimations. The probabilistic assessment of existing structures makes it possible to estimate remaining working life of structures and effectively plan their maintenance and required economic resources. Probabilistic assessment can help to authorise further use of partly deteriorated structures for shorter working lives without the need of immediate structural interventions or limitations of their use.
