ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The concept of the supporting framework significantly influences the design of buildings and thus has substantial effect on the factors construction time and costs of an architecture. Concurrently, in early phases a reliable structural design procedure must be performed based on a small number of uncertain parameters. The resulting highly complex decision-making process provokes the necessity of an appropriate approach for implementation of engineering expert knowledge to achieve a holistic design support. For this purpose, a new methodology for early integration of structural engineering knowledge in the design process is introduced. The concept involves intelligent substitution models for structural pre-design that are based on developmentlevel dependent fuzzy knowledge bases. For the inclusion of design modifications, the substitution models are extended with presented concepts for change management. The developed approach enables the involvement of the structural design perspective in early stages and thus harmonization and efficiency increase of the design process.
