ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: By using the finite element programming, a finite element model of an H-section steel beam (Q345) was established. Then, the influence patterns of the key parameters on the mechanical properties of the damaged steel beam were analyzed, which include the varying damage degree of the cross section, height-to-thickness ratio of the web plate, and the width-to-thickness ratio of flange. The results of the analysis indicate that the damage of the cross-section reduces the stiffness of the steel beam, but it has little influence on the ultimate bearing capacity of the steel beam. Furthermore, the web height-to-thickness ratio and the width-to-thickness ratio of the flange can increase the stiffness and the ultimate bearing resistance of the damaged steel beam.
