ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The punching shear strength and deformation capacity of Reinforced Concrete (RC) slab-column connection are the basic performances in design, as well as the core factors that control the performance design of a flat plate system. Although various studies and hundreds of laboratory experiments related to the punching shear strength of RC slabs have been published and conducted, respectively, code provisions have been developed based on a rather limited subset of the available test results and those studies have ignored the details of test slabs and experiments. Worse still, the equations presented so far have not been able to calculate the punching shear strength and deformation capacity simultaneously. A database of 678 specimens was categorized and structured depending on the type of test set-up in the present study. In this study, eight equations for the punching shear strength prescribed in specifications were evaluated based on the database. A simplified strength equation and a simplified deformation equation were also proposed from the database.
