ABSTRACT
Since alveolar gas is fully saturated, the vapour pressure of water remains a constant 6.3 kPa (47 mmHg) at body temperature at all altitudes. The partial pressure of CO2 , however, is reduced because of the hypoxic drive to increase pulmonary ventilation, effectively washing CO2 out of the lungs.
