ABSTRACT

Taken as an anthropological symbol, place is man, by “culture”. The Latin verb colo clarifies this process: originally, it meant, “move within a given space”; then it acquired the meaning of “inhabit”; subsequently it acquired the sense of “cultivate”; finally, it favoured the attitude of “worship”. Each pattern discloses an outward movement towards something new; the last step points to transcendence. The verb colo originated the term culture, being quite significant the suffix that translates both a process and an outcome (or just an outcome because it is born from a process-never finished), in itself, culture is a project rather than an outcome.
