ABSTRACT

Animals with neurologic problems are often anesthetized for diagnostic procedures such as brain or spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scan, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) ( Fig. 15.1 ) collection, and nerve/muscle biopsy, or for surgical procedures including thoracolumbar and cervical intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and brain tumor resection ( Fig. 15.2 ). Less common procedures performed include atlantoaxial instability correction, ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement, vertebral distraction and fusion for Wobbler disease, and vertebral fracture repair.
