ABSTRACT

Radiation therapy is a powerful tool for the treatment of cancer and the palliative management of painful conditions in cancer patients. Treatments (called fractions) are delivered under general anesthesia or heavy reversible sedation using protocols suggested elsewhere in this book. This chapter will focus on the palliative management of cancer pain, oncologic pain assessment, and commonly encountered painful conditions.
