ABSTRACT
Diaphragmatic hernias are usually categorized as either acquired or congenital. Acquired hernias are often associated with trauma. A right-sided diaphragmatic hernia is unusual. Total herniation of the liver into the chest is rare. A 53-year-old male with a remote history of a motor vehicle accident presented with cough, flu-like symptoms, and shortness of breath. He was subsequently diagnosed with a large right-sided diaphragmatic defect with herniation of abdominal contents, including the entire liver. The liver appeared cirrhotic. The patient underwent a successful repair of the hernia using prosthetic material. During his follow-up, his liver functions normalized.
