ABSTRACT

Bronchopulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital malformation of the pulmonary system. Intralobar pulmonary sequestrations commonly present as recurrent pulmonary infections, while extralobar sequestrations are most often detected incidentally. We present a case of a 33-year-old female who was diagnosed with an intralobar pulmonary sequestration with venous drainage to the hemiazygous system after she presented with multiple pulmonary infections. She successfully underwent a left lower lobectomy with subsequent resolution of her pulmonary infections. This case highlights the fact that although intralobar sequestration rarely drains into the systemic circulation, surgeons must be aware of this anatomic variant.
