ABSTRACT
Safe and effective performance of the spectrum of laparoscopic surgical procedures requires proficiency in a set of core competencies that, if mastered, will generally result in an optimum surgical and clinical outcome (Table 4.1). Each of these competencies will be described in detail, referring, as appropriate, to other relevant chapters in the text.
