ABSTRACT
Ectopic pregnancy is the implantation and growth of a conception outside of the endometrial cavity proper. Under normal physiologic conditions, the oocyte is picked up by the fimbriae of the fallopian tube, transferred through the ampulla to the vicinity of the isthmic-ampullary junction where it is fertilized, and eventually transferred into the endometrial cavity to implant in the endometrium.
