ABSTRACT

Adhesions or synechiae within the endometrial cavity can have a profound impact on fertility. They are most commonly related to postabortal or postpartum instrumentation of the recently gravid uterus, but there exist several other circumstances that predispose to their formation. Understanding the pathogenesis of such synechiae is the first step to understanding primary prevention of such adhesions, as well as their diagnosis. Surgery for intrauterine adhesions is the topic of Chapter 34.
