ABSTRACT

This chapter offers the fundamentals of solar cookers, the main types, the testing of their performances, and the new ways of offering attractive devices not only for developing countries but also for the developed ones. The new possibilities of thermal energy storage (TES) and photovoltaic (PV) are also analyzed. The energy consumption and cost for cooking in an average family is generally minute in comparison to heating, air conditioning, and other electricity consumption by home appliances, except for low-income users. Obtaining biogas from soft organic residues in anaerobic digesters is one possibility of getting a clean fuel for distributing to small communities in a renewable way. The use of solar energy for cooking will eliminate air pollution, the use of scarce firewood as well as its cost and burden. Solar cooking also offers a health-improving effect for an enormous population, avoids environmental damage, contributes to food safety, and improves health issues for children and women.
