ABSTRACT
The subject of geographic information has seen rapid development in recent years. It has introduced many new terms while at the same time producing new meaning to some existing terms in a particular context. Consequently, many publications include a glossary of terms for their own particular area of interest. The Standards Committee of the Association for Geographic Information published the first version of its GIS Dictionary in 1991. This dictionary attempts to produce a common set of definitions for general usage.
