ABSTRACT

An alternate approach for solving for the roots of the characteristic equation directly is to solve Eqs. (2.94) and (2.95) iteratively. This can be accomplished by applying the secant method, presented in Section 3.4.3, to Eqs. (2.94) and (2.95). Two initial approximations of ), are assumed, 20 and ), I' the corresponding values of the characteristic determinant are computed, and these results are used to construct a linear relationship between 2 and the value of the characteristic determinant. The solution of that linear relationship is taken as the next approximation to I"~ and the procedure is repeated

for nonlinear eigenproblems.
