ABSTRACT

The European Union Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) as one of four EU macro—regional strategies provides a framework for contributing to the economic, social and territorial cohesion. The importance of air transport connections to the hinterland is particularly observed in the proposed research taking into account all relevant challenges of air transport system and infrastructure. The overall objective of the proposed research is to contribute to expanded, improved and safer air transport networks, which will attract new investments to the poorer regions, promote trade and contribute to the connectivity within EU transport corridors and the Adriatic and Ionian region. Analysis is focused on existing infrastructure, connections and available aircraft fleet capacities based on three possible scenarios which are identified on the recommendations of available databases (EASA, Eurocontrol, Boeing, Airbus, etc.). The purpose of the paper is to provide the beneficiaries with a comprehensive transport platform development in accordance with transport policy as a tool for strategic planning, development and design of air transport systems and infrastructure.
