ABSTRACT

Metabolism studies have also begun to increase in the literature for two carbons (2C) derivatives, as well as other new psychoactive drugs. Bromo-dragonfly is a new hallucinogenic designer drug that is related to the phenylethylamines but with effects lasting up to three days. The synthesis of 2C-I was published in 1991 and the drug became popular in tablet form as a club drug in the United Kingdom around 2003. 2C-B is a phenylethylamine derivative with psychedelic/entactogenic effects in humans and is one of the famous members of the group of so called "2Cs". The hallucinogenic activity of the 2-C and D-series drugs is mediated by an interaction with the serotonergic 5-HT2A receptor. Routine screening methods do not detect 2C agents in urine or serum. Therefore, clinicians will need to evaluate the patient history, clinical signs, and symptoms for diagnosis.
