ABSTRACT

308Genetically modified crops, whose genetic material/DNA is either altered or modified using recombinant DNA technology, are popularly used in agriculture now these days. The whole idea behind generating generally modified (GM) crops is to add one or sometimes more genes to an organism’s genome. They give the crops new characteristics, like insect resistance, larger yields, and faster growing traits. The use of generally modified organisms (GMOs) is hardly new, but many believe that sufficient research on the long-term effects has not been conducted. With an ever-increasing global population, massive world hunger, and with an estimation that a child dies for every two seconds worldwide from starvation or undernourished, there is a great promise in the use of this technology to benefit not only the farmers but also societies worldwide.
