ABSTRACT

62In this work stable emulsion droplets have been prepared using ultrasound assisted technique, in which continuous phase was water and droplet phase was hexane. Tween 80 surfactant was used as surface active agent with quantity above Critical Miscelle Concentration (CMC) value. The stock solution of desired concentration was obtained by diluting with distilled water. The blue colored complex was formed very quickly and the solution is stirred for one minute to ensure complete development of the complex prior to measuring the absorbance. Effect of variables such as cavitation time, Energy dissipated concentration of hexane and surfactants and their effect on emulsion stability is reported. The most suitable parameter conditions are at 50 mL distilled water, 4 mL hexane, 0.1 g Tween 80, 1 mL emulsion solution, 50 mL dye solution of 20 ppm concentration and 5 min sonication time. It is observed that maximum dye removal efficiency was obtained at the above said parameter values.
