ABSTRACT
Wireless communications began when Marconi invented the radio in 1894. Innovation in wireless communications has been breathtaking ever since, starting with microwave transmission over long distances and then moving into the mobile access domain. The two major systems for wireless network access, namely mobile cellular and Wi-Fi, have undergone many generations of technology evolution, each marked by dramatic improvements in network efficiency and user experience, and have — together with advances in mobile computing — arguably transformed human existence.
