ABSTRACT

Stainless steel (SS 316L) is known to be structural material for plasma facing component (PFC) of ITER like tokamak. In the divertor PFC, heat 308sink material like CuCrZr slotted channel needs to be leaked proof attachment with the structural material. Joining of SS 316L with heat sink material (CuCrZr) has performed using vacuum brazing technique. The brazed joint specimen has undergone several numbers of thermal cycles (450°C, 5 sec, ON and cooled down to 300°C repeatedly) using thermo-mechanical simulator (Gleeble 3800) machine. The brazed joint of SS316L/CRZ is examined by non-destructive testing (NDT) using pulse echo immersion testing probe before and after the thermal cycles. The brazed samples were also undergone microstructural examination and micro hardness measurement. The detail of specimen preparation using vacuum brazing and the effect of thermal cycles on the brazed joint of SS/CRZ are studied and experimental results are presented in the chapter.
