ABSTRACT

Oil bearing plants that produce non-edible oils in appreciable quantity and adapt to non-cropped marginal lands and wastelands would be better feedstock of choice for biodiesel production. Fortunately, there are more than 4,000 species of plants in China with potential for bioenergy production [20]. A total of 38 oilseed crops have been identified as potential energy plants in China and are mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical areas [17, 19]. Swida wilsoniana (Wangerin) Soják (syn. Cornus wilsoniana; Wilson’s dogwood or guangpishu) was proposed as a candidate energy plant [11, 12, 14].
