ABSTRACT

Advances in technology have played a significant role in transforming our agriculture. It has changed us from food gathers and hunters to the efficient and reliable user of the natural resources to wield enhanced control over food, feed and fiber supply. Agriculture is no longer a practice of growing crops and animals for subsistence but it has evolved as an industry over the time. Advances in sciences have had been of immense help

in enhancing food production. Amidst this gloomy scenario, food security in developing world science holds a great hope. Research in agriculture has had successes in improving the efficiency of crop production, food processing, food safety, food storage and distribution. It has also been our prime concern that the new technologies used in all these do not degrade the environment. India has made a great strides and the green revolution has been a consequence of introduction of newer varieties of food crops, newer agriculture practices and their spread to the masses. In this article an attempt is made to foresee how a very new technology, which is being pursued vigorously all over the world, will impact the agriculture.
