ABSTRACT

The antibacterial potential of crude extracts of 15 plants, which were traditionally used in Indian medicinal practices have been tested against both gram-negative and gram-positive strains using Agar well method. On the basis of the medicinal aspects of different parts of the plants, 24 extracts were prepared. Nine plants extracts were found to have excellent antibacterial property and eight extracts shows moderate activity. The study points to the possibility of the plant, such as E. hirta, L. inermis, C. dactylon, C. roseus, and S. asoca for further discovery of new metabolites with active antibacterial properties.
