ABSTRACT

The scarcity of electromagnetic radio spectrum is due to its increasing usage day by day. However, the allocated spectrum is underutilized due to the conventional approach of spectrum allocation and management, and existing inexibility in operating frequency bands. As most of the useable radio spectrums are already allocated, it is cumbersome to detect the vacant bands to either deploy new services or enhance the existing ones. To improve spectrum utilization, dynamic spectrum access (DSA) scheme [1] has been introduced. Cognitive radio network (CRN) technology, an outcome of DSA scheme, aims to address the issues related to spectrum underutilization in wireless communication.
