ABSTRACT

As communication on the move has become popular, research interest in wireless network technologies has increased with the goal of providing efcient and reliable communication over wireless. While the data trafc exchanged over the wireless medium is expected to grow in future, the limitation of the available electromagnetic spectrum is a challenge. Cognitive radio technology (CRT) tries to overcome this challenge. This chapter discusses the signicance and applications of CRT in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The issues and challenges of using CRT in ad hoc and sensor
