ABSTRACT

We live and work in a world where 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day (IBM, 2015). To express the magnitude of this number, a quintillion equals 1 billion squared-or a 1 with 18 zeroes behind it. e technology available to collect and store so much data is evolving at such a pace that the ‚gure referenced earlier is likely to be quite outdated by the time you read this chapter. To add perspective to the exponential growth of data, 90% of the world’s data have been created in the last 2 years alone (IBM, 2015).
