ABSTRACT

From banking to the retail industry, many sectors to some extent have adapted to Big Data analytics. The healthcare industry has lagged in adaptation of this technology. Part of the problem could be resistance to change, underinvestment in technology due to uncertain returns, and organizational structural issues with reference to consolidation and standardization of data. A series of converging trends, such as demand for better data, cost pressures in the form of reform, significant advances in technology, and changing government regulations for making data publicly available is bringing the healthcare industry to a tipping point where Big Data technologies can play a major role in transforming the healthcare industry. Big Data technologies can also foster healthcare system for data feedback loop.
