ABSTRACT

The methodology of the FD/FDP offender has been identified through an avenue of sought-out medical care either for the offender himself or herself (FD) or the offender’s target victim (FDP) who is often a child or other dependent. Investigators rely on the intuitiveness and observatory skill of medical personnel to be alerted when FD offenders self-inflict harm or FDP offenders inflicted abuse. When FD/FDP offenders choose a nonmedical setting to attain their sought reward, seen within law enforcement and firefighter realms or in the civil arena, recognition of the proxy role must come from within the profession targeted. At times, this recognition is either difficult to access or nonexistent and the cycle of abuse is unimpeded.
