ABSTRACT

On August 9, 2014, Officer Darren Wilson of the Ferguson, Missouri Police Department was on patrol when he observed Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African American male walking in the middle of the street. Officer Wilson pulled up beside Brown and requested that he get out of the middle of the street. Facts later reveal that Brown had robbed a convenience store minutes earlier. Brown allegedly took a package of cigarillos. What happened next is sketchy but witness reports say that Brown reached into Officer Wilson’s police cruiser and which point an altercation occurred between him and Officer Wilson. A single gunshot was then heard. Within seconds, witnesses saw Brown running from the police cruiser with Officer Wilson chasing after Brown and yelling for him to stop. Brown turned around and charged at Officer Wilson. Officer Wilson fired several rounds with his handgun killing Brown.
