ABSTRACT
Law enforcement personnel are constantly striving to promote and preserve a positive, moral image of their departments to the public they are sworn to serve and protect in democratic society. However, the community’s perception is influenced by multiple variables and use of force has one of the strongest impacts on it. Continuously honorable and conscientious police work of hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers across the nation can be discredited by one story of excessive force.
