ABSTRACT
Use of force can be traced back to ancient times. Those in authority whether formal or informal have used force to control the behavior of their subjects. Formal governments or those not so formal governments maintained control of the people through the use of force. History is full of examples where either the military or some semi-military group was authorized to subject the people of the state to fall in line to the establishment.
