Because of mass production, several departments and key functions of firms were created. First, a clear division between management and the operative area was distinguished, each one with well-defined duties. However, in order to be successful, both parts were made conscious of synergy elements. The companies started to create systems to control their activities and indicators that show day-to-day operation performance.
