ABSTRACT

As the global population continues to grow by millions annually, food insecurity and distribution are becoming more serious problems. As of 2010, the world eclipsed the 7 billion benchmark and is projected to reach 8 billion by 2020-nearly double the population of 1990. A majority of this exponential growth of the past 35 years can be accounted for in the growth of developing countries. However, despite accounting for over 80% of the world’s population since 2010, a large proportion of these developing countries deal with daily food shortages, while their counterparts in the developed nations face food surpluses.
