ABSTRACT
This chapter gives a background to polymer-based dielectrics, the requirements for short-term energy storage and associated challenges, and will familiarize the reader with the basic principles and recent developments in the field of electrostatic capacitors. The various material systems comprising of polymer matrices and fillers, factors that influence the energy storage capability and processing techniques for polymer nanocomposites (PNCs; as dielectrics for capacitors), are also discussed.
