ABSTRACT
Since the early 1960s, there has been a great demand for stiffer, stronger, and lightweight materials used in transportation, aerospace, and construction industries. Composite materials have attracted a lot of interest for more than a decade because of their outstanding properties, such as high elastic stiffness, high strength, and low density, compared with traditional engineering materials (Chawla 2012). There is an extensive research and development in these high-performance engineering materials.
