ABSTRACT

Abstract One of the most striking characteristics of the human brain is its lateral division into two halves. Though the two sides of the brain appear supercially symmetrical, the brain is both structurally and functionally asymmetric. Hemispheric lateralization is a fundamental principle of nervous system organization and is evident throughout the animal kingdom (Ocklenburg and Güntürkün 2012). In the typical human brain, the left and right hemispheres are specialized for different cognitive functions, enhancing information processing efciency.
