ABSTRACT
Ferrets are strict – or obligate –carnivores and they require high protein and fat levels. Their ancestor, the European polecat, feeds on birds and other small vertebrates. Their dentition and GI tract are adapted to this carnivorous diet (see Chapter 3). There are a number of commercial ferret diets that adequately meet the ferret’s nutritional needs (Fig. 5.1).
